The heating function really works. When turning on the functions it starts off with coldest, colder, cold, then hottest, hotter, hot, in sequence. I overclicked by one and the LED turned red and within 30 seconds I started sweating. I cycled it back over to coldest and the heat went away. The battery uses a DC barrel jack and charged at 25.1w measured from the wall. There's no spare battery and it will only charge using an A/C outlet so make the charge count.

The vest itself has a LOT of pockets. The entire front side has pockets and an even larger pocket behind all of them. The back has a slot but I don't think it's supposed to be used for storage. There are pockets on the inside waist line which is also where the battery sits. There's no zipper or velcro for the inner waist pockets so the battery can just flop out if you do a little hop. It's better to route the cable out of the vest and into an exterior pocket with a zipper.

The various electronics in the vest get a little bit warm even on cooling mode. The fans all generate a little bit of heat as well as the control button being the hottest. The fans are all really quiet and vibrate a little bit at the highest setting.

I got this for me because I had a heat stroke many years ago and since then I have not been able to tolerate outdoor activities in the summer. The vest is super lightweight and the cooling fans perform well. I also love all the pockets that make it handy for any activity. I have many different types of ice and cooling vests and this is by far the most comfortable and lightweight. Plus you don’t get the residual moisture/condensation like other types.

The downside for me is that it’s too big. Like most cooling vests, they perform best when they fit close to your body. I got the smallest size offered and hoped (assumed) there would be a way to tighten it up. Unfortunately for me, there isn’t and it fits really loose. The loose fit causes the exhaust part of the fans to rest on my upper arms which actually defeats the purpose because that side is hot.

To be fair, I had my husband try it, it fits him perfectly and works very well, the fans are positioned right and he doesn’t feel the heat from the exhaust. For reference, I ordered a size medium, my husband wears a a man’s large and it’s the perfect size for him. Since it runs large, order a size down to be sure you get the full cooling benefit. He also likes the look and the pockets. It’s his new fishing vest and works great for that purpose. Since that was the original intent, I would say it’s a hit!
